an early winter drive through the mountains became rather interesting as we began the descent to the coast
burnt trees from a fire several years ago gave hint to just how dense the coastal rainforest can get
stark against the pale wintry sky, the burnt bark peeling away here and there
its hard to say they're beautiful, knowing the intensity of the firestorm that brought them to this, destroying what was once a rich, vibrant forest
but... striking they are
then there was the "carved" mountain
layers of stone, deeply etched
every time I drive past it I'm amazed all over again
low clouds obscuring some of the lower reaches. the moisture in the air settling on the stone, etched lines growing darker, as if they were being drawn in the moment
here and there, trees gaining hold
a softening
simply stunning
nature, as it is
take care,
Jillayne
