the sun is shining today and the little birds are flying about, busy as bees
we've had a few warm days and the snow is melting - that, coupled with a few good downpours have turned my herb garden into a birdbath and as i sit here at the kitchen table, the sun streaming through the windows, drops of water are fluttering through the sky creating rainbows on my keyboard
it's wonderful to watch...
inside, little birds have taken over my sewing room as well
i'm teaching a class on stitching, patching and playing this spring
creating a design of one's own from a piece of inspiration of one's choosing
this version came from a piece of scrap-booking paper, which i've forgotten to take a picture of... something for another day...
one-half of the paper is devoted to little birds standing on each other's backs
pretty pastel birds in combinations of florals and stripes, tiny dots
the other side of the paper looks like strips of lace and ribbon
i'm making little patched and embroidered squares which are then applied to a muslin background, with more stitching and, eventually, more applique
the tulips come from a section of the "ribbon" and this little bird can't resist them!
the strips of lace and floral fabric echo that portion of the paper as well...
the little guy below is standing on a branch, little felt leaves in soft blue and grey-green
the other two blocks are still in progress
it's great fun, and a bit of a challenge, to look closely at something and start pulling out details to use here and there - changing it up, keeping it similar, inspired by something and then interpreting it in your own way
going out on a limb
