little birds

the sun is shining today and the little birds are flying about, busy as bees

we've had a few warm days and the snow is melting - that, coupled with a few good downpours have turned my herb garden into a birdbath and as i sit here at the kitchen table, the sun streaming through the windows, drops of water are fluttering through the sky creating rainbows on my keyboard

it's wonderful to watch...

inside, little birds have taken over my sewing room as well

i'm teaching a class on stitching, patching and playing this spring

creating a design of one's own from a piece of inspiration of one's choosing

this version came from a piece of scrap-booking paper, which i've forgotten to take a picture of... something for another day...

one-half of the paper is devoted to little birds standing on each other's backs

pretty pastel birds in combinations of florals and stripes, tiny dots

the other side of the paper looks like strips of lace and ribbon

i'm making little patched and embroidered squares which are then applied to a muslin background, with more stitching and, eventually, more applique

the tulips come from a section of the "ribbon" and this little bird can't resist them!

the strips of lace and floral fabric echo that portion of the paper as well...

the little guy below is standing on a branch, little felt leaves in soft blue and grey-green

the other two blocks are still in progress

it's great fun, and a bit of a challenge, to look closely at something and start pulling out details to use here and there - changing it up, keeping it similar, inspired by something and then interpreting it in your own way

going out on a limb

I am in love with this latest stitching journey. What a wonderful class you will be teaching to very lucky students. You are genius to get inspiration from scrapbook paper and then create fabric Creative Bliss. Spring and Birds...Perfect combination. I want to be in your class. You are truly making 2016 an amazing year dear...

Oh that's very nice and springy - great idea. It would be a pleasure to attend that class. I love your selection of fabric prints and the addition of felt for the leaves. Very nice. Spring can't be far away!!

I wish I lived close by to be able to take a class of yours. SIGH.

These pieces you are working on are so sweet and so 'spring' looking. I especially love the second piece with the little bird on the limb.

Thank you once again for sharing and inspiring ~ FlowerLady

They are so beautiful dear Gillayne lovely spring tones, and happy motives, beautiful stitched together. Here all snow melted away too, but we are waiting for the sun. Smiles from Dorthe

Hi Jillayne, oh how wonderful your stitched creations. So inspiring for spring to come hopefully soon!!
No snow here, warm temps and not much winter. The garden is confused. Enjoy your designing. Your work is always a joy to view. Have a great week. xo

Happy New Year, my blogging friend! Birds are definitely on my agenda today, as well...I just finished a baby quilt top, filled with pinkish-red birds. It's delightful, as are YOUR beautiful creations, as ALWAYS!!! Glad to see you've started out 2016 in such a creative way. XOXO

Love the 'going out on a limb' part - how true it is. Isn't everything we create doing that? And so much better that you have your wee birdies on a limb. There's a great deal of symbolism there.
