Words for Thought

I received a splendid gift from a kindred spirit this holiday season;
this beautiful crazy quilted needle book, and what a treasure it is

beautifully monogrammed on the front with my initial; meticulous stitching with charming bits and pieces of old linens and lace

the back cover as lovely as the front

inside, pretty pink wool felt for the needles and a beautiful pin for decoration
 gorgeous!

I am going to enjoy using this every single day!
as we opened our gifts, sipping tea and exclaiming over every little thing, we got to chatting about my recent post on words for the New Year... trying to articulate what I am hoping to gain from my desire to focus on one word each month and really explore the layers of meaning to be found within it through art and writings

and she shared with me her word for the New Year, to be focused on for the entire twelve months, again through art and writing, but with a wonderful twist...

her word is "Gratitude" and each month she will place a different adjective with it, for example "Joyful Gratitude" and so on... I think it's brilliant...

I am so excited for the New Year!

Your gifted needle case is truly a treasure. It is beautiful and shows the labor of love put into it. I like both ideas of annual words...one per month and one word with monthly adjectives. I continue to contemplate my word for 2012. Gentle week to you dear...

That's a beautiful needle case. I'm sure you'll think of the giftor each time you use it.
I've chosen my word for 2012 on StitchMap as Industrious, as that is what I've chosen to be with TAST 2012, CQJP 2012, and other courses.
I like the idea of a different gratitude each month: it focuses the mind to find positives in one's daily life rather than seeing the negatives.
Wishing you a Wonderful New Year!

The needlecase is beautiful and is truly a gift from the heart. How special it will be to use this on a daily basis and remember the giver. Focusing on positive words can only be beneficial to you. Where the mind goes...there goes the spirit. Adding adjectives is a good way to throughly explore your "special" word. I need to think of a good word for me. As Suzi said industrious would be good as I am planning on completeing the TAST and CQJP. Somehow industrious does not suit me. Inventive yes, but not industrious. I am much too lazy to have that be my word. You have given me food for thought here.

Gratitude is definitely my all time word. I agree with Suztats in that it focuses the mind on positive things. There are so many words to add to it and concentrate on - life, health, family, friends, .........
endless

Jillayne, your gift is so lovely. It's the kind of gift that keeps on giving.

I like your idea of a word a month. Mine the remainder of December is "reflection".

Blessings!
