Boogie On

This journal making adventure of mine is such fun...
Full tilt, full steam ahead, in every spare minute.

here is the latest...
hand-dyed fabric from Alaska, vintage lace from France, hand-dyed silk ribbon from an artisan on Granville Island in Vancouver

a sparkly vintage brooch from Salmon Arm, B.C.

this time I used natural linen thread in size 35/2 for sewing the signatures...
this is my preferred thread for book binding - it's actually for doing Pulled Thread Embroidery, or even Drawn Thread, neither of which have I done in more than a decade...

the shield-shaped lace is also from France, and the metal letters below are from a craft store

"true"

what a great word for the cover of a journal; both as an indicator of what may be found inside and a gentle guide for the writer, to always be true in your words and your thoughts

this is my new favourite-so-far!

Absolutely wonderful. I had a look at the book binding course, it looks really interesting. I would love to sign up, but I need to concentrate on my exhibition pieces at the moment. Hopefully I will have time later in the year. Thanks for the tip.

I'm so happy that you're happy with how it's coming along! You've put your fair share of time and effort into it so it's well-deserved.

Jillayne - I am WOWED, once again, by the beauty of your work...both of these journals are absolutely stunning...love that you incorporated lace from your trip. Yeah...you're awe inspiring - heading back to look a little more.

BTW - I was having problems leaving comments on blogs, too - ran across a note in the HELP section on google that said if, when you go to sign in to your account, you UNCHECK the "Keep Me Signed In" box under your password, you can leave comments all day long. IT WORKS...but you have to resign in each time you go to leave one.

Hope your week is creatively wonderful - I have no doubt it will be!!!

P.S. Read your email the other day, but was running out to teach (I went back to teaching at a brand new quilt store in town) and didn't have a chance to answer it...now I can't find your email anywhere in my stupid system - drop me a note if you get a chance...I need to tell you about my "penny" experience.

Jillayne,

Your journals are beautiful! I love how you use special vintage laces and hand-dyed ribbons-these journal covers are perfect shields for cherished handwritten memories.

I appreciate the comment you left on my blog the other day. You eloquently wrote exactly what I have been thinking. Thank you so much for following my blog and for your encouragement.
