Monday's 'Musement - Ticking Away

Busy days of summer are here and time is ticking away...

Pie cherries are ripening in the tree and I have several bags in the freezer already, and more still to do, the garden needs weeding, tomatoes are growing...happy days of puttering outside - when it hasn't been raining of course. (I think we have passed the 36-hours-without-rain mark!)

And now that most of my chores are done, today I got to play.

I got this charming French ticking wired ribbon in my July Gilded Girl's Stash Society Box (yep, I signed up and wouldn't you know it, my first one is French-themed. Yippee!)

I decided to start small so my first project is a gift bag, just the right size for a petit cadeau...

although the ruffle at the top gave me a bit of grief,

First I thought it should be a folded ruffle but that turned out to be way too heavy - I had wondered if it might be when I picked the fabric, but I seem to be an eternal optimist, hoping it would work...

then I decided a single layer with a simple hem would do the trick,

ick

as I flung it aside in disgust, it landed wrong side up... as I was giving it a sidelong dirty look, I realized this way was none so bad...

a little lace, a dried heart decoration,

some beads and twisted cord made out of embroidery floss and it was all done

for me, this is kind of like a warm-up,

Now I feel ready to delve into the rest of the goodies!

And thanks to everyone for the suggestions for seam binding sources. I did go to Zipperstop and they had everything I wanted - I picked out four rolls and went to check out - then the shocker.
$44.95 to ship to Canada!

So, I followed the other suggestions and went to Etsy and found just what I wanted at Fini Ribbon. Now I just have to hurry up and make 50 of the little Wish Stars!!

I love that ticking! Is there a source in the US for it? I know what you mean about needing to buckle down and get busy. Someone mentioned that Christmas is exactly five months away. When did that happen? I love the little gift bag. Patty

Hi Jillayne, I like your little gift bag. The ticking reminded me of the ticking that my mom would sew with only hers was blue and white. I am catching up with my reading tonight before I call it a day. I would like some of your rain please so maybe it would cool it down. Have a great week. Your Missouri Friend.

Hi dear,
This is so sweet Jillayne, I love the colours- (danish flag ,lol) and what kind of dried is the heart ? it looks so lovely - the cutest gift to have a gift inside.
I have tryed ordering from Zipperstop ,too- but it wasnot that huge amount to ship...and the yard price was still ok for me, compared to what I should pay for something here, not as beautiful as this seambinding, so I might order again.
I wish you happy hours creating your 50 Wish Stars, dear friend. And enjoy your sun,- here it is shining today :)
Warm hugs.
Dorthe

Jillayne, this is just perfectly French! No doubt about it! And you're like me, a perfectionist, but that little tossing aside because it didn't seem "right" to you must have been an "Aha Moment", as Oprah would say! Because the frayed edge is lovely!!! But then, everything you create is lovely!

Hugs! Diane

I'm not sure if you meant for it to be Christmas-y, but it reminds me of a candy cane! Suddenly wishing it was December...

I agree with Laura, your bag looks candy good enough to eat! And your blog too, really beautiful and crisp in its display. Wanted to follow but don't see the widget. Will visit another day!

Hi Jillayne,
Oh I just love how the little gift bag turned out in a frenchy way.
So perfect with the red ticking and the little heart addition is the best touch. Everything you touch turns to gold, even when you toss them aside!!
Have fun creating.
Hugs, Celestina Marie

Just noticed your blog on Suzan's sidebar and came over.
i was shocked at the shipping cost from Zipper stop too and I'm only a state away. Guess that's where they make up the low cost:)
I'm still happy with it but may just stop in their store in NYC when I go.
